Welcome to the Vicksburg Aikikai and the study of aikid0

As an aikido trainee you have entered into a form of training that can offer many benefits for you and your life: self defense skills, physical fitness, improved health of mind and body, confidence and more.

Aikido teaches you to bring your mind and body together in a non-competitive atmosphere.  When there is no separation between the mind and body, great power is possible.  Since aikido movements are circular in nature, requiring flexibility, balance and timing, there is no need to conflict with the force of an attack.  Instead you will learn how to blend with the attack, take control of its force, and redirect the power safely and effectively.  An important element of aikido practice is learning how to fall safely, thus giving you an additional form of self defense.

Aikido techniques never match strength against strength, so you don't have to be strong to start but through consistent practice you will eventually become strong.  Aikido techniques are defensive, so you don't have to be aggressive to begin, but you will develop forceful and confident movements.

Since aikido practice is always done with a partner, you will learn from others and others will learn from you.  This creates an open, healthy spirit.  In short, aikido is good for your body, your mind and your heart.

AND IT IS FUN!!!

Who we are

The Vicksburg Aikikai (Aikido Center) is a not-for-profit group of Aikido enthusiasts and volunteers who maintain the organization.  We formed in January 2002.  The Vicksburg Aikikai welcomes mature individuals who
wish to practice earnestly.

You are invited to watch class at any time, as well as take a one-to-one lesson for free.  For the introductory lesson, please wear loose-fitting clothing without a belt.  A gym suit or jeans and T-shirt are suitable, and please remove jewelry prior to practice.

For enrolled members, dues are $50/month, and we wear a standard white or blue martial arts uniform.
The Vicksburg Aikikai is a member of the U.S. Aikido Federation (http://www.usaikifed.com).  The Aikido taught is the same style and spirit as at Aikido Hombu Dojo (Aikido Headquarters) in Tokyo, Japan.
